A Solemn Moment to Remember Those We Have Lost
As the hospital, which has to date treated the largest number of returning hostages from Hamas captivity and poised to tend to the physical and emotional challenges of any others who are released or rescued from the nightmares of Gaza, it is with a heavy heart that we collectively mourn the deaths of those who were murdered in cold blood last weekend.
While Sheba is renowned for being a place where optimism and hope without boundaries abounds, the hospital’s staff, especially those who have dealt directly with returning hostages since last November, were emotionally devastated.
On Sunday, Sheba held a solemn ceremony in the main hospital building. No speeches…Just a moment of silence to remember not only those who have been lost but also for those who continue enduring horrors after 11 months in Gaza. After singing the Hatikva, we all returned slowly to our various jobs, wondering aloud what will be the fate of those who are still left behind, as well as our heroic soldiers. Yes, the soldiers, who continue to operate in harm’s way to destroy the terror infrastructure and rescue hostages, whenever possible, amidst horrific conditions. Several Sheba doctors have returned to Gaza for a second tour of duty with their combat units.
We pray for the safe return of all to their families!
