Stoma surgery can be a stressful experience for patients and families. In most cases, the procedure is performed without prior warning and characterized by a rapid deterioration of the patient from complete wellness to a chronic condition. A stoma has a significant impact on the patient’s life due to both physical and emotional changes. The patient’s ability to adapt to these challenges greatly affects their rehabilitation and quality of life.
To acquire up to date knowledge in fields related to treating patients with a stoma and treatment principles, pathophysiology, types of surgery, prevention of complications, identification and treatment of complications in infants, children and adults.
To identify medical, nursing, and psychosocial aspects related to treating patients with a stoma and their families.
To practice stoma management and guide patients towards self-treatment.
To identify and adapt equipment to the patient according to his body, stoma type, and day-to-day activities.
Natalya is the nursing coordinator for the care of wounds and stomas at Sheba Medical Center.
She is responsible for coordinating the treatment of wounds and stomas of all patients, providing advice and guidance to the patient, family members, and the treating team, while also preparing personal intervention plans for the patients and their families. Natalya is responsible for determining the treatment standard for stoma patients and for preparing protocols and patient instruction sheets in stoma care.
Natalya obtained her nursing qualifications at Sheba’s academic School of Nursing and her BA and MHA degrees from Tel Aviv University. She has undertaken advanced training courses in all aspects of stoma and wound care and has shared her knowledge at many national and international conferences.
She is a dedicated teacher responsible for the nurse training programs on stoma care at Sheba’s Ziva Tal Academic School of Nursing. She also lectures on wound care in national advanced nursing training courses in oncology, geriatrics, and rehabilitation.
