Sheba’s New General Surgery Department: Elevating Medical Excellence and Collaboration
The new General Surgery Department at Sheba stands at the forefront of medical excellence, offering advanced treatment at international standards.
Under the leadership of Dr. Ido Nachmani, a renowned specialist in liver, pancreas and bile duct surgeries, the department is divided into five specialized units. Each unit, managed by senior surgeons, ensures focused expertise and superior patient care.
“This is different from a large surgical department (or several departments) that includes all areas of general surgery. The new department comprises five professional units, each with its own senior director and senior team accompanying the patient during their stay in the department. The thinking behind this approach was to create a situation where everyone benefits: both patients and the medical staff,” says Dr. Nachmani.
This structure fosters multidisciplinary collaboration and professional enrichment, benefiting both patients and medical staff. Patients receive personalized care tailored to their specific needs, supported by a team of experts in their field. This innovative approach guarantees immediate support for complex cases requiring cross-specialty procedures.
The five specialized units are:

“Instead of a large department that does everything, the surgical team in each unit now deals exclusively with their subspecialty, so their expertise increases,” Dr. Nachmani adds.
The new structure also supports Sheba’s surgeon selection service, allowing patients to choose their surgeon from a pool of experts in specific fields who work together within a single unit. This collaboration ensures that patients receive the highest level of specialized care and benefits from the collective expertise of the entire team.
