The study performed in collaboration with SGO’s Prof Didi Fabian, and a large referral center in Tehran, Iran, focuses on the management and prognosis of pediatric patients with retinoblastoma in Iran, highlighting the challenges faced by the healthcare system. Evaluating the data from a referral center, the study involved 309 patients aged below 15, diagnosed with retinoblastoma between 2007 and 2017. The research revealed that systemic chemotherapy was the primary treatment method, with a high relapse rate and modest overall and relapse-free survival rates. Comparing the results with other global studies, the study underscored the need for improved screening methods, updated treatment protocols, and enhanced follow-up procedures to enhance the survival rates of patients with retinoblastoma in Iran.
