Sheba and Charité Scientists Join Forces to Shape the Future of Medicine
In an era where global collaboration is more critical than ever, leading scientists from Israel’s Sheba Medical Center and Germany’s Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin came together last week for a groundbreaking Scientific Exchange Symposium. The two-day event, supported by the German-Israeli Foundation (GIF), brought together top researchers and emerging talents to tackle some of the most pressing medical and societal challenges of our time. Both Sheba and Charite are ranked by Newsweek magazine at Top 10 “World’s Best Hospitals”.
Prof. Martin E. Kreis, Chief Medical Officer of Charité, emphasized the crucial role of international cooperation: “At a time of geopolitical uncertainty, this symposium underscored the importance of international scientific collaboration. Both institutions, globally recognized for their expertise, complement each other by combining their distinct strengths in research and innovation. By sharing knowledge and fostering joint projects, we aim to accelerate medical breakthroughs and improve patient care worldwide.”
The symposium’s scientific program covered cutting-edge topics in medicine, including:
-
- Precision Medicine & AI in Healthcare
- Neuroscience & Mental Health
- Oncology & Immunotherapy
- Infectious Diseases
- Climate Change & Health
- Disaster & Pandemic Preparedness
A key focus of this meeting was nurturing the next generation of researchers. Special matchmaking sessions and networking events were designed to help young scientists exchange ideas, build collaborations, and lay the groundwork for future discoveries.
“We believe that science knows no borders,” said Prof. Joab Chapman, Director of Neuroimmunology at Sheba Medical Center. “By learning from each other, we can drive innovation and create real impact.”
“That is why both Sheba and Charité will continue to support emerging scientists by providing competitive seed funds,” added Prof. Dror Harats, Executive Vice President for Research and Development at Sheba Medical Center. “These resources will allow young researchers to design innovative projects and apply for larger international funding programs, ensuring that promising research ideas have the support they need to thrive.”
