At The Jerusalem Post Miami 2024 Conference, Sheba Medical Center's VP of Global Affairs, Yoel Har-Even, received the prestigious Jerusalem Post Award for Heroism and Courage on behalf of Sheba Medical Center, recognizing the institution's exceptional response during the ongoing conflict. The award acknowledges Sheba's remarkable achievement of a 99% survival rate among battlefield casualties and its treatment of more than 2,000 casualties from the frontlines.

“The healthcare system in Israel is strong and solid like a rock, and every person, Jewish or non-Jewish, is doing everything to save the heroes 24/7,” declared Har-Even upon accepting the award. His statement underscored Sheba’s successful integration of civilian and military medical services during the crisis, with the hospital currently managing 70% of all military and civilian rehabilitation cases.

Through a Soldier’s Eyes: Sheba’s Healing Mission

The conference also highlighted the story of Yonatan Prins from Bne Netzarim, who sustained severe injuries in Gaza. After undergoing a complex 10-hour surgery at Sheba, Prince shared his powerful story of recovery and resilience. Speaking about his ongoing rehabilitation journey, Prince emphasized how the supportive environment at Sheba provides crucial strength during challenging times. “The rehabilitation journey has its ups and downs, but being together with other soldiers at Sheba creates an atmosphere of hope,” Prince explained. He particularly praised the medical staff’s consistently positive approach and highlighted the tremendous support from visitors across Israel, noting how these elements have been vital in helping soldiers cope with their pain and hardships.

Expanding Global Healthcare Innovation

During the conference, Yoel Har-Even outlined Sheba’s growing international presence through the ARC (Accelerate Redesign Collaborate) platform. The hospital has secured a new agreement with France to develop an innovation center and is planning expansion into Australia. The establishment of ARC New Jersey in partnership with Liberty Science Center marks a significant milestone in Sheba’s international growth, complementing existing collaborations with premier U.S. institutions including Cedars-Sinai and Mayo Clinic.

Meeting Critical PTSD Treatment Needs

Sheba Medical Center has responded to the increasing need for PTSD treatment among soldiers and children by forming strategic partnerships with FIDF and the Dell Foundation. These collaborations enhance the hospital’s ability to provide comprehensive care beyond physical rehabilitation, addressing the full spectrum of wartime healthcare needs.

Looking Forward

The conference proceedings emphasized Sheba Medical Center’s ongoing commitment to international collaboration in training, physician exchange, and innovation sharing. The hospital continues to maintain excellence in both civilian and military care while expanding its global partnerships, reinforcing its position as a leader in crisis response and healthcare innovation.
