More than 100 doctors, healthcare executives, medical students, and Palestinian officials attended to learn about Sheba’s cutting-edge clinical care and promote regional cooperation.

As an international leader in clinical care, research, and innovation, Sheba is committed to not only providing world-class care to our patients, regardless of race, religion, or gender, but also sharing our knowledge and expertise with colleagues across the globe to help those in need of quality care anywhere, per our creed ‘Hope Without Boundaries.’ This is especially true with regard to our immediate neighbors in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

REACT: Highlighting Oncologic Care Innovations

On Monday, March 20th, we were delighted to host more than 100 medical professionals for the Recent Advances in Cancer Treatment (REACT) 2023 regional conference, where Sheba’s leading clinicians highlighted the very latest in oncologic care, with a focus on pediatrics, marking an important milestone for Israeli-Palestinian medical cooperation.

“We are hosting our Palestinian colleagues not just to share the latest innovations and advancements in pediatric cancer treatment, but because collaboration with Palestinian physicians and health institutions is key to advancing healthcare in the region,” said Prof. Itai Pessach, Director of the Edmond and Lily Safra Children’s Hospital during the event. “We are committed to working together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients, and to promote peace and cooperation in the field of medicine.”

Sheba’s Ongoing Improvements in Oncologic Care in the Region

The REACT 2023 regional conference is the latest step in Sheba’s ongoing efforts to improve care in the region and comes on the heels of several joint initiatives with Palestinian hospitals to offer specialized medical training and education. Sheba also provides telemedicine services to Palestinian hospitals and clinics in the West Bank, enabling doctors to consult with Sheba specialists on complex cases.

According to Raied Balum, Director of Regional Patient Services at Sheba and the conference’s chief organizer, “This gathering marks a historic moment for Sheba Medical Center and healthcare in the region. Today, we are starting a new journey together, one that will continue to strengthen the ties between us. This event is a testament to our shared commitment to providing the best possible care to all patients. I look forward to seeing its positive impact in the years to come.”

Sheba Director General, Prof. Yitshak Kreiss, concluded the event: “We are the largest hospital in Israel and the Middle East, and we are a very good one. As a leading regional and global healthcare institution, we have another role in the region: to serve as an engine for peace. This means not only providing the best medical care and sharing expertise, but also creating connections, both professional and personal, between us here and everyone in the region who is willing to be our partner and friend, cultivating coexistence and friendship.”

Sheba hosts first-of-its-kind oncologic conference for West Bank and Gaza medical professionals.
