Sheba Medical Team Joins Israeli Delegation on Humanitarian Mission to Jamaica
Joining the 30-member Israeli medical delegation organized by the Israeli Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Sheba team included three physicians and two nurses specializing in surgery, emergency medicine, and pediatrics. The mission was initiated following a request from Jamaica’s Ministry of Health for international cooperation.
Collaborative Medical Support
The Israeli medical delegation was integrated into two regional hospitals identified by the Jamaican Ministry of Health as central to the current relief efforts. These facilities were operating under challenging circumstances and facing significant demand following recent events in the region.
Clinical Integration and Impact
Sheba’s medical team rapidly integrated into ongoing clinical operations, establishing strong collaborative relationships with local staff. They played an active role in treating local residents and helped ensure the continuity of quality healthcare access in the affected areas.
Dr. Galia Barkai, Dr. Nadav Zillka, and Dr. Geva Harmelin, along with nurses Maria Epstein and Milana Mazal Mazor, worked alongside local teams for approximately two weeks, providing surgical, emergency, and pediatric care.
Local medical teams, patients, and representatives from Jamaica’s Ministry of Health expressed appreciation for the Israeli delegation’s contributions. The mission demonstrated the effectiveness of international medical cooperation in addressing public health challenges.
Commitment to Global Health
This mission reflects Sheba Medical Center’s broader commitment to international solidarity and assistance. Through the Sheba Humanitarian & Disaster Response Center (HDRC), established in 2017, Sheba has developed the expertise and operational capacity to rapidly mobilize medical professionals and deploy them to regions worldwide requiring support.
The collaboration between international medical professionals and local healthcare teams in Jamaica reinforces the essential role of international cooperation in global health. It stands as a model for effective assistance—one built on mutual respect, clinical excellence, and a shared commitment to patient care.
