This year's event, a tribute to heroes, emphasized Sheba Medical Center's role since October 7th and its dedication to healing, hope, and the resilience of the human spirit.

This year, the most sought after ticket in town wasn’t to Sheba’s annual gala, but to a touching night of great importance and hope. An event that shined a spotlight on the resilience that drives the human spirit even under the darkest circumstances.

Eight months following October 7th, the darkest chapter in our nation’s history and the start of Operation Iron Swords, Director General Yitshak Kriess felt that the usually celebratory gala wouldn’t be appropriate. Instead, he chose to host a tribute honoring our heroic soldiers, courageous civilians, returned hostages, and our dedicated staff, who tirelessly provide rays of hope around the clock.

Emotional Testimonies and Heartfelt Tributes

There were tears, hope and an overall sense of unity amongst everyone there, as soldiers and civilians recounted the harsh realities they faced and the encounters with Sheba’s medical staff that pulled them through.

Among the highlights of the evening was an inspirational speech by President Isaac Herzog, which praised all of Sheba’s medical experts for their dedication to saving lives and guiding soldiers and civilians on their path toward recovery and a life of normality. There were also musical performances from a number of amazing singers, including Lihi Toledano, Miri Mesika, Roni Dalumi and Rita.

The Golan Family Story

However, the moment that brought everyone to tears was when Professor Kreiss took to the stage and shared the inspiring story of the Golan family from Kfar Aza. During the early hours of that tragic Saturday, they were tragically attacked by Hamas terrorists. The entire family, Ariel, Ellay, and baby Yael all suffered severe burns and were airlifted to Sheba Medical Center in critical condition.

Ellay, who sustained the most extensive injuries while protecting her baby, faced a precarious battle for months. Thanks to Sheba’s renowned Burn Unit, she, along with her husband and baby, survived. During the event, Professor Kreiss honored Ellay by presenting her with a stethoscope and Sheba medical employee card, effectively announcing that her upcoming medical internship would be at Sheba.

Through stories of courage, heartfelt tributes, and expressions of solidarity, the event underscored Sheba Medical Center’s unwavering commitment to healing and hope. It was not just a celebration of survival, but a testament to the enduring spirit of humanity and the boundless potential for new beginnings.
