In a groundbreaking achievement that underscores Israel's position as a global leader in healthcare innovation, Sheba Medical Center has been recognized among the world's top 10 smart hospitals, marking another milestone in the nation's contribution to cutting-edge medical technology and patient care.
This exceptional accomplishment further reinforces Israel’s reputation as a global innovation leader and a “Startup Nation.” Sheba Medical Center has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Best Smart Hospitals in the World by Newsweek and Statista, marking the first time an Israeli hospital has reached the global top 10, rising from its previous 13th-place position.

This success places Sheba alongside renowned institutions such as Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and Massachusetts General Hospital, underlining the global impact of Israeli medical innovation.

Prof. Yitshak Kreiss, Director General of Sheba Medical Center, emphasizes the significance of this milestone: “The entrepreneurial and innovative DNA that drives nearly $1 billion in tech exits is also what makes Sheba one of the smartest hospitals in the world.”

Looking to the future, Prof. Yitshak Kreiss envisions healthcare as more than just a service – he sees it as a potential economic driver: “If we don’t break the mindset that sees healthcare as a financial burden and start viewing it as a fruitful investment, we will not only lose valuable personnel but also miss a golden opportunity to turn the health system into a major growth engine for the entire economy.”

ARC: The Engine Driving Israeli Medical Innovation

At the heart of Sheba’s success is ARC (Accelerate, Redesign, Collaborate), the medical center’s innovation arm. ARC serves as a hub that connects world-class professionals, doctors, researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors to foster the development of advanced healthtech solutions. This collaborative ecosystem has been crucial in driving Sheba’s technological advancements and global partnerships.

Prof. Eyal Zimlichman, Director of ARC and Chief Innovation and Transformation Officer at Sheba Medical Center, highlights the impact of this approach: “In recent years, we’ve seen a significant leap in the medical field, particularly in technologies and medical devices, which have set a new standard for advanced care. At Sheba’s ARC, we identify needs and innovations through collaboration between entrepreneurs and clinicians, transforming them into cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, and digitization, all aimed at delivering better and more efficient healthcare.

Through ARC, Sheba has become a leader in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into healthcare, enhancing core clinical processes, and improving patient outcomes. AI technologies developed and implemented at Sheba are streamlining the work of medical teams, improving diagnostics, and personalizing treatment plans as part of Sheba’s ambitious journey to becoming a fully AI-based hospital.

Sheba’s ARC is home to advanced robotics that span from navigation bots and pharmacy robots to AI-powered psychiatric solutions and precision surgical robots. Sheba is equipped with smart delivery rooms, VR rehabilitation technologies, and Sheba Beyond, which brings hospital care right to patients’ doorsteps.

Through ARC, Sheba partners with global technological leaders like Microsoft, KPMG, Mayo Clinic, 6Degrees, and others to conceptualize, develop, and launch state-of-the-art solutions that shape the future of medical technology. Over the past year, Sheba’s ARC incubated multiple startups, including several acquisitions collectively valued at nearly $1 billion. Notable acquirers include companies like Edwards Lifesciences and Alcon.

Resilience and Vision: Shaping the Future of Global Healthcare

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that it comes despite ongoing regional challenges. Sheba’s ability to drive global progress and create advanced treatment options for patients worldwide, even in difficult times, underscores the resilience and determination characteristic of Israeli innovation.

This year’s smart hospital ranking assessed hospitals from over 30 countries, using a multifaceted approach with several key ranking factors, including the use of digital technologies, AI, robotics, telemedicine, and digital imaging. The result was informed by an online survey of hospital managers and healthcare professionals around the world.

In an age where technology and healthcare are increasingly intertwined, Sheba Medical Center stands at the forefront, proving that the future of healthcare is smart, fueled by vision, collaboration, and innovation. This achievement marks another significant milestone in Israel’s ongoing contribution to global healthcare innovation.
