At 75: Israel’s Celebration is Sheba’s “Brit” with the Jewish State

It is almost impossible for most people, Jews and non-Jews alike who reside abroad, to fathom our 24-hour transition from the emotionally gut-wrenching Yom Hazikaron (Memorial Day for fallen IDF soldiers and victims of terror) to the euphoric Yom Ha’atzmaut (Independence Day) celebrations without missing a beat.

Such is life in the tumultuous Jewish State. As we celebrate the birth of the State of Israel this week, we also commemorate the beginnings of Sheba Medical Center, which came into being as Tel Hashomer Hospital, with the former IDF Surgeon General, Chaim Sheba, as its first Director General.

During the next few months, we will be showcasing a series of videos and articles that go to the ‘heart’ of what this world-renowned medical facility is all about.

In this edition, we are proud to feature a short vignette on our “World’s Best” status, as well as the first-ever “48” list, conceived by the popular Israel21C news site, where Sheba’s, Yoel Har-Even and Dr. Abdulla Watad are featured prominently.
