YOUR WEEKLY UPDATES FROM SHEBA MEDICAL CENTER
“We can rebuild him. We have the technology.”
Over a half century ago two renowned popular science fiction series, “Star Trek” and “The Six Million Dollar Man” gave us an early sneak preview of the transformation from medical science fiction into what has become 21st century science fact.
AI and ground-breaking medical devices are currently transforming Sheba Medical Center into the hospital of the future, while scientific breakthroughs in the laboratory, as well as cutting-edge start-up tech have buttressed the “Six Dollar Man’s” opening title, “We can rebuild him. We have the technology.”
In this week’s edition, you will read about the truly remarkable work being conducted in Sheba’s national tissue bank, whose original design revolved around growing new skin for patients with severe burns (including children from Gaza and the West Bank) that has morphed into a place where donated bones and heart valves are saving both children and adults with oncologic and cardiovascular issues.
Also in this week’s edition…The battle to preserve the image of Israel through Sheba’s “Tikkun Olam” (repairing the world) took a unique twist this past week, when we invited a Jewish social media influencer who speaks to the Arab world in their own language, visited Sheba to show how we treat sick Palestinian children on a daily basis. The results on her social media platforms were astounding. Tens of thousands of views and hundreds of likes. Our thanks to “Hurriya” for her inspiring efforts!
