MRI at The Meirav Breast Center

Providing Patients With Advanced Breast Cancer Care

The  Need

Among all the breast imaging units in Israel, the Meirav Breast Center is the only one that has a dedicated MRI machine, which is essential to the evaluation of women with breast cancer, especially when the diagnosis is not clear. With that in mind, we have upgraded to a 3T MRI system, which spawns a new level of accuracy and efficiency in MRI evaluations. It’s twice as powerful as the 1.5-Tesla MRI that was used until now, and it lowers patient stress levels by reducing exam times to 15-20 minutes.

About the
Meirav Breast Center’s Dedicated MRI

Established in 2007, Sheba’s Meirav Breast Center has become a cornerstone in breast cancer treatment, attending to more cases than any other medical institution in Israel, with approximately 16,000 patients annually. We strive to maintain and expand this one-stop clinic, which currently specializes in advanced early detection through to the latest surgical treatments available by way of an imaging unit, a high risk breast clinic, attending surgeons and plastic surgeons. Currently, the imaging unit performs 4,500 MRI studies annually and an estimated 2,500 imaging-guided breast biopsies.

THE PROJECT

The state-of-the-art 3T MRI system will revolutionize the way breast cancer is detected and provide patients with a slew of physical and psychological benefits that were never before possible. Below are some of its benefits.

  • Enhanced image quality with more gradients and improved resolution
  • Increased system power leading to improved workflow and shorter examination times
  • 70cm Bore Magnet suitable for larger patients
  • Touchless guided patient setup for faster overall exam time
  • Audiovisual features to calm patients and enhance the MRI experience
  • Sensors tracking breathing patterns for optimal scan parameters and table positioning
  • Improved identification of fatty breast tissue/silicone, reducing the need for repeat scans
  • MRI-guided breast biopsy technology with biopsy planning software for precise lesion targeting
  • LED lights to improve visibility during breast positioning and biopsy procedures
