Gaya Zubery's journey of recovery at Sheba’s Returning to Life Rehabilitation Hospital epitomizes the resilience and determination of individuals striving to overcome adversity. As the first and only female soldier severely wounded in the Gaza war, Gaya's story is one of courage and perseverance.

On December 7, amidst intense fighting in Gaza City’s Shejaiya neighborhood, Gaya Zubery, a paramedic for the 53rd Battalion, responded to a tank hit by an explosive. Despite the chaos and danger, she and her medical team rushed to the scene to provide aid to the injured soldiers. Tragically, the explosion claimed the lives of two tank soldiers, but Gaya’s commitment to her duty remained unwavering.

During the rescue operation, Gaya herself became a casualty, sustaining a gunshot wound to her leg. Despite her injuries, she continued to prioritize the care of her fellow soldiers. Eventually, she was evacuated and underwent emergency surgery at Beersheba’s Soroka Medical Center.

After a month of treatment, Gaya began her rehabilitation journey at Sheba’s Returning to Life rehabilitation center, where the team has been impressed time and time again by the pace of her recovery. Supported by dedicated healthcare professionals, Gaya embarked on the challenging path to recovery. Through comprehensive rehabilitation programs and specialized therapies, Gaya gradually regained the use of her legs and made significant progress in her rehabilitation journey.

For Gaya, the Rehabilitation Center became a second home—a place where she received not only medical care but also emotional support and encouragement. Despite the challenges she faced, Gaya remained determined to overcome her injuries and return to a fulfilling life.

Her journey serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of rehabilitation. Through her remarkable recovery, Gaya inspires others to persevere in the face of adversity and embrace the possibility of returning to life with hope and determination.
