June 29, 2025 |
Sheba Medical Center has inaugurated an advanced physiotherapy facility within the Head Trauma Rehabilitation Department of the Professor Mordechai Shani Integrated Rehabilitation Hospital, made possible through generous funding from the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. This expansion represents a significant milestone in providing comprehensive care for patients with complex brain injuries.
Major International Partnership Supports Critical Care
“Our donors are Christians from the United States, and they donate to welfare and to security and to hospitals in Israel to do good within Israel society. So, we approached Sheba and offered to help in the rehabilitation arena,” said Ayelet Shiloh Tamir, Director General of HaKeren L’Yedidut, the Fellowship’s operational arm based in Israel. The new wing accommodates up to 42 beds and features both traditional physiotherapy and fitness equipment alongside cutting-edge digitally integrated treatment systems. This expansion addresses the growing need for specialized care in one of Sheba’s most complex departments, which handles the most challenging and severe head injury cases, including significant numbers of war casualties and civilians affected by serious accidents.
Personalized Recovery for Complex Cases
The Head Trauma Department’s approach centers on individualized physiotherapy programs designed to maximize patients’ limb strength and gross motor skills while improving stability and balance to compensate for functioning lost due to head and brain injuries. Each treatment plan is carefully tailored to the patient’s specific needs and recovery goals.“Many dozens of patients, civilians and veterans who suffered severe head injuries were rehabilitated here. Each story is more inspiring than the last. The inspiration is not only for the patient’s recovery, but also for our team that fights with all their might to rehabilitate them,” said Professor Amitai Ziv, Deputy Director of Sheba Medical Center and head of the rehabilitation hospital.Sheba’s primary objective remains returning each person to their life and home as quickly as possible. The expanded physiotherapy wing will significantly enhance this recovery process, and Sheba expresses deep gratitude to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews for their vital role in helping injured patients return to their daily lives.
