In less than 48 hours, Sheba Medical Center has been transformed into an emergency-ready facility, relocating NICU, oncology, maternity, and other critical departments to a protected underground hospital. With its rapid deployment and 95% of its staff on-site, Sheba has shifted from routine operations to full emergency mode, ensuring continuity of care, even under fire.
“Friday morning and Israel is under attack,” said Yoel Har-Even, Head of Sheba Global. “Here at Sheba, the largest and most comprehensive medical center in Israel, we have a national role to be ready.”

“Within hours,” in preparation for the barrage of missiles sent from Iran, “Sheba has deployed an underground facility,” Har-Even explained. Sheba Medical Center transitioned from routine operations to full emergency readiness, deploying a protected underground hospital to safeguard patients and staff. “The NICU babies, the hemato-oncology, and the most sensitive patients have been evacuated there from the upper floors.”

This rapid relocation included maternity wards, orthopedic units, and other high-risk departments. Sheba also began building a new kitchen inside the underground area to support prolonged emergency operations. “This facility is sheltered, and ready to accept and accommodate civilians who live around Sheba and don’t have shelters,” Har-Even noted.

According to the latest updates, Sheba has treated 176 injured citizens, 13 of whom are hospitalized, and 8 are in emergency care. 69 patients from the Iron Swords war remain hospitalized. Plus, an additional 68 people suffering from acute anxiety arrived overnight, highlighting the mental health toll of ongoing attacks.

Meanwhile, Sheba is preparing for the possible arrival of 53 hostages, ensuring facilities and staff are in place to provide immediate care. The hospital is currently operating at Level D, its highest emergency alert status, with 95% of its staff already on-site.

To continue providing care beyond the physical hospital, Sheba is shifting 50% of ambulatory services to its virtual platform, Sheba Beyond, and is launching a dedicated command center to manage remote care delivery. Leadership has emphasized that operations will continue “responsibly and efficiently,” adding, “We are all human and under pressure, but our mission is to serve the public with compassion and professionalism.”

With threats looming, including recent missile attacks from Iran, Sheba stands its ground, a symbol of resilience and medical excellence, ready to protect and care for everyone, no matter the circumstance.

As Har-Even put it: “The next few days are going to be very sensitive here at Sheba and Israel, but we’re ready.”
