Dr. Joshua Kuluva and Rachel Roth: Inspiring Experience Volunteering at Sheba
Following the horrific scene and aftermath of October 7th, San Francisco based, neurologists and psychiatrist, Dr. Joshua Kuluva and his wife Rachel Roth, AFSMC Western Region Board Member decided to put their life on pause and fly over to Israel for a volunteering stint at Sheba.
Upon their arrival at Sheba, the two Californians were captured completely off guard. They were especially taken back by how wonderful the ‘Returning to Life’ rehabilitation unit operated. Rachel stated, “What Sheba is doing for the injured is unbelievable. They created a community. Something I’ve never seen in a hospital or felt in a hospital before.”
With a looming conflict, Dr. Kuluva was astounded to see Jews and Arabs working so hard side by side for the wellness of one another. Jewish doctors would treat Arab patients and Arab doctors would treat Jewish patients. Sheba was a place we’re everyone, despite race or religion, were working with a common goal in mind.
One thing was for certain, Sheba left an impact on Rachel and Joshua. When their volunteering service came to an end, they were interviewed and Joshua stated the following, “By supporting Sheba you’re helping Israel develop the world’s most advanced healthcare systems. So much so that it is helping other countries develop their own strategies for healthcare.”
Thank you, Joshua and Rachel, for being Friends and supporters of Sheba!
