Sheba Medical Center has inaugurated its new Institute for Obstetric and Gynecologic Imaging, made possible by part of a NIS 70 million donation from Turpaz Industries CEO Karen Cohen Khazon.

The dedication took place during September’s ribbon-cutting, at which Prof. Yitshak Kreiss, Sheba’s Director-General, was also in attendance. The event marked the latest recognition of Cohen Khazon’s commitment toward strengthening Israel’s medical infrastructure, which has benefited healthcare institutions throughout the country.

When Generosity Meets Memory

The institute was established in honor of Cohen Khazon’s late parents, Nediva (Gisèle) and Moshe (Musa) Cohen, linking their legacy to women’s care of the highest standard.

Emphasizing the values of generosity, humility, and civic responsibility imparted to her at home, at the time of the donation’s announcement in July 2025, Cohen Khazon shared that her parents embodied this strong moral foundation in their own lives. Nediva Cohen raised and educated generations of children with special needs, while Moshe was central to the establishment of Israel’s electric industry.

Further putting the contribution to three major hospitals in context at the time of its announcement, Cohen Khazon stated to Bizportal,

“As CEO of a company that operates on the international stage but is deeply rooted in Israeli society, I felt that now was the right time to translate business success into social impact. Beilinson, Sheba, and Soroka are pillars of Israel’s healthcare system, and this donation is a token of appreciation for their commitment to life, innovation, and world-class medicine.”

Care Worthy of a Legacy

The new institute will continue to bolster Sheba’s broader commitment to advancing women’s health by integrating the latest innovations into complex pregnancy and gynecologic care.

Obstetric imaging, at its most basic, answers a single question: is the pregnancy developing normally? At Sheba, that question is only the starting point. The institute’s scope extends to anatomical surveys, amniocentesis, and the management of complex twin pregnancies, offering families facing difficult diagnoses a place built specifically to meet that moment. Cohen Khazon’s gift will help carry this work forward, ensuring the institute can provide, as Obstetric and Gynecological Imaging Institute Director Prof. Weisz describes it, “the diagnostic precision and clinical courage to give parents the answers—and the outcomes—they deserve.”

Looking Ahead

The Institute for Obstetric and Gynecologic Imaging will stand as a lasting tribute to Nediva and Moshe Cohen, and a manifestation of their daughter’s generosity. A fitting expression of the Cohen family’s values, the services made possible by the gift are contributing to the excellence Sheba, Newsweek’s #7 World’s Best Hospital, is world-renowned for.

Prof. Michael Belkin, an ophthalmologist and inventor at Sheba Medical Center, shows how Sheba’s research ecosystem turns ophthalmology ideas into real clinical tools. From ExPRESS to DSLT and CureSight, his innovations reflect Sheba’s model of combining clinical care, science, and device development. It is a clear example of how translational research can move from concept to practice.
